ExploreFabulously huge rooms - well appointed and very comfortable. Two bathrooms delighted my wife! The food and wine are excellent and the beach lunch a must do! Game drives were informative and a gentle pace in comparison to the Big 5 reserve we had come down from. The guides super knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Overall a supremely relaxing last stop on our tour.

Yes. Oceana sits in the Eastern Cape, which is a malaria-free province. That is what makes the safari-and-beach combination here possible — guests can do Big 5 day trips and bring children without taking antimalarials. No part of the property or the surrounding region requires malaria prophylaxis.
No — and that's deliberate. Oceana isn't a Big 5 reserve, and it isn't trying to compete with one. It's where you come afterwards. Most guests arrive having just finished a Big 5 safari — the early mornings, the long game drives — and what they want next is to slow down: breakfast in bed, an empty beach, an afternoon with a book. Oceana is a nature retreat with its own 740-hectare reserve, so you can still do a game drive, a guided bush walk or a beach walk whenever you feel like it — but nothing here runs to a schedule, and doing nothing at all is a perfectly good plan. Big 5 day trips are an hour away for the day you want them.
167km from Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) — roughly a two-hour drive along the R72 coastal road. East London Airport is closer at 121km (around 1 hour 30 minutes). Direct transfers and self-drive directions are arranged through the reservations team.
Yes, in season. Southern Right whales and Humpback whales visit the coastline from approximately June to November each year, often visible from the reserve and from the suites without leaving the property. Peak viewing is usually August to October.
Big 5 game drives are available as day trips from Oceana — the nearest Big 5 reserve is within one hour. On-property game drives explore Oceana's own 740-hectare wildlife sanctuary, where you'll find giraffe, zebra, antelope, warthog and prolific bird species. Both are booked through the reservations team.
Yes. Oceana hosts intimate beach weddings on the beach deck (up to 40 guests) or on the grassed area (up to 100 guests). Catering, accommodation for the wedding party, and exclusive use of the reserve can all be arranged. Enquire direct for current packages and available dates.
Yes. The malaria-free location means children travel without prophylaxis, and the Private House (three bedrooms, sleeps up to ten with sleeper couches) is designed for families taking the property on an exclusive-use basis. Some game-drive operators have minimum age requirements — the reservations team will recommend age-appropriate experiences when you enquire.
The Eastern Cape's mild climate makes Oceana a year-round destination. Summer (December to March) is warmest and busiest. Spring (September to November) and autumn (April to May) offer fewer crowds and excellent wildlife viewing. Whale season runs approximately June to November, with peak viewing August to October.
Yes. Oceana has a dedicated on-site spa offering massages, body treatments, facials, packages, and nail treatments. The spa is available to in-house guests and to day visitors by appointment — at least 24 hours' notice is required for non-resident bookings. Treatments can be combined with honeymoon and special-occasion packages.
Yes. Horse riding is available to in-house guests and to non-resident visitors, booked through the reservations team. Both beach rides and reserve rides can be arranged depending on the day and the rider's experience level. Equipment and guides are provided.
Oceana is partially wheelchair accessible. The lodge, main public areas, and some suites can accommodate guests with mobility limitations, but the beach access and some experiences involve uneven terrain. Contact the reservations team in advance to discuss specific needs and confirm suitability.
